Spring Safety Tips

As winter melts away, everyone’s thoughts soon turn to springtime with the feeling of rebirth in the air.  As you and your family head out into the warm spring air, be sure to discuss some spring safety topics to keep everyone safe.  Here are a few topics we fell are important:

Allergies:
Allergies are a problem for many people in springtime.  Get advice from your doctor on which allergy medicine to keep handy and have it ready for anyone in the family who needs it.

Fire Safety:
Warm days of spring are a great time to go over your fire escape plan with your family.  Start doing some practice drills and make certain everyone knows what to do and where to go.

Mower Safety:
Your lawn mower has been sitting all winter long and needs a few things done before it can be used safely.  Be certain to change out all of the fluids in the mower, top off all levels including oil and clean out any old grass that is still on the blade very carefully!  Blades should be sharp and not pitted, if it is you may want to consider having it serviced and sharpened.

Spring Cleaning:
We tend to think about major cleaning the the springtime.  Dangerous household chemicals such as paint thinners and cleaning chemicals can NOT just be put into the trash.  If you live in Dane County, Wisconsin – check out Dane County’s “Clean Sweep Program”.  It’s a great and safe way to get rid of those hazardous articles safely.  Visit their web site or call 608-243-0368.  Other counties or areas, visit your local garbage removal company for their policies.
